NAME Kevin Quinn
DATE OF BIRTH (MEANING OLD BUGGER OR NOT!) 17/7/86 so I guess not an old bugger!
TIME KITING? Started Kite surfing September '09' and did it on the land for a few months before. Started as a surfer and would often go to the beach with a friend who kite surfed, eventually he talked me round and now surfing takes a back seat.
FAVOURITE SPOT? My experience is limited to the main local spots. Favourite spot would have to be Westward Ho! lots of room to be blown down wind, is a 5 minute drive from work and is free to park at the moment.
MOST MEMORABLE SESSION? Still learning, so for me my last session is always the most memorable as I learn something new, get that bit better and more confident. Next stage..... JUMPS!!!!!!
WORST KITEMARE? At Westward Ho! 30-35mph N wind. Was riding away from the beach out to sea when I hit a wave and did a unintended jump that felt massive but I suspect was only about a foot, landed in another breaking wave, kite fell out the sky and I lost my board. Then proceeded for about 5 very long minutes to get my kite to relaunch whilst being battered by more waves and blown further and further out to sea and up the beach. Finally kite relaunched, body dragged back to beach where I found my board. Was tempted to call it a day but was glad I did not as it was after that that I really was getting the hang of getting up wind and going really fast.
WHAT KEEPS YOU KITING? Every session is a good one no matter what happens, feels good to always be progressing, it makes for some cool photos, I would love to get better than my friend who introduced me to the sport and I have not met a kitesurfer I have not got on with.
